Job Description

Akij Shipping Line Ltd. is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced 3rd Engineer to join our team for a foreign going bulk carrier vessel. As a 3rd Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the Chief Engineer in the overall maintenance and operation of the vessel’s machinery, including engines, generators, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
• Monitoring and operating the vessel’s propulsion systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
• Conducting routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of machinery, identifying and troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise.
• Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, fuel consumption, and spare parts inventory.
• Collaborating with the engineering team to ensure the availability of necessary supplies, equipment, and spare parts onboard.
• Adhering to all safety regulations and procedures, conducting regular safety drills, and promoting a culture of safety awareness among the crew.
• Assisting in the training and mentoring of junior engineering officers and crew members.
• Cooperating with other departments and personnel onboard to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
• Keeping up-to-date with the latest industry regulations, technological advancements, and best practices related to marine engineering.

Requirements:

• Valid STCW Certificate of Competency as a 3rd Engineer.
• Minimum experience of [X] years as a 3rd Engineer on foreign going bulk carriers.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining marine propulsion systems, engines, and auxiliary machinery.
• Strong technical knowledge of marine engineering principles and practices.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures, including SOLAS and MARPOL regulations.
• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle emergencies and technical issues effectively.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
• Physically fit and able to work in challenging conditions and confined spaces.
• Proficiency in English language (spoken and written).
